Sunshine Coast Local Medical Association Monthly Meeting
Sunshine Coast Local Medical Association Monthly Meeting – May 2025
Join your fellow healthcare professionals for an informative and engaging evening at the May edition of the SCLMA Monthly Meeting, held at the beautiful Maroochy Surf Club. This event is a great opportunity to connect with local medical colleagues, enjoy some food and drinks, and gain fresh insights from two experienced presenters in the respiratory health field.
The night’s focus? Breathing easier — both literally and figuratively.
We’ll dive into asthma management with a spotlight on oral corticosteroid (OCS) stewardship, led by seasoned physician Dr Bob Edwards. Then, we’ll shift gears into the world of sleep medicine, as nurse educator Kerryn Philips unpacks the latest in diagnosing and treating obstructive sleep apnoea.
There’ll be Q&A time, so bring your curiosity (and maybe that one odd patient case that keeps you up at night — sleep pun very intended).
Dr Bob Edwards is a Partner Physician with Queensland Respiratory Services, with a medical career spanning over five decades. He graduated from the University of Queensland with an MBBS in 1969, became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1975, and joined the American College of Chest Physicians a year later.
His academic journey included a Research Fellowship at the University of Sydney, where he began publishing extensively. His areas of interest and expertise include influenza vaccination, asthma, pulmonary haemorrhage, idiopathic pulmonary haemosiderosis, and occupational lung disease.
Dr Edwards is also a Certified Independent Medical Examiner and an Investigator at the Wesley Dust Disease Research Centre, making him a well-rounded and respected voice in respiratory medicine.
Kerryn Philips is a highly experienced Registered Nurse with a Master’s degree in Clinical Education. She brings a wealth of knowledge from both tertiary and primary healthcare settings. Currently, she serves as a Clinical Educator and Specialist Liaison for Sleep Testing Australia — the diagnostic division of CPAP Direct.
Kerryn has a passion for bridging the gap between clinical best practice and patient outcomes, particularly in the area of sleep health and respiratory therapy
